The Materials Handling Team Manager is responsible for supervising and coordinating personnel and day-to-day operations within the Loading/Unloading and Train Crew areas of a chemical manufacturing plant. This position will also perform logistics planning for the Supply Chain organization on a back-up basis. The position directly reports to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities to include:

Operations

  • Ensure safety is #1 and encourage team to consistently achieve safety goals.

  • Responsible for daily supervision of all loaders and train crew personnel. Coordinate all activities (Loading/Unloading/Rail) to assure adherence to carrier and production schedules, ensure customer satisfaction, and maintain the highest standards of safety and quality

  • Communicate daily expectations, direction and instructions and provide ongoing feedback to employees. Communicate any changes in policies or procedures as needed.

  • Communicate effectively and regularly with Supply Chain manager and Logistics Planner to discuss daily transportation needs and issues.

  • Collaborate with team to establish clear boundaries and hold team accountable for achieving goals.

  • Continually assess performance of area/team and proactively drive productivity and efficiency improvements, as well as identify cost-saving opportunities.

  • Supervise, motivate, coach and counsel employees regarding individual performance and development needs, displaying courageous leadership when presented with challenging situations.

  • Ensure fair and consistent application of company and departmental policies and practices

Supply Chain

  • Schedule and execute shipment of raw materials and finished goods from shipping facilities to customer locations in a timely and cost effective manner

  • Track and trace shipments to ensure on-time, error-free delivery to customer locations and effectively communicate exceptions to appropriate contacts.

  • Utilize SAP for all logistics transactions

  • Ensure all ISO standard requirements are met and maintained

  • Handle operational issues that arise; escalate with carriers and supervision as necessary

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • 3+ years’ experience leading a team in a manufacturing plant

  • Must possess strong leadership and facilitation skills, including conflict resolution

  • Supply chain and logistics experience a plus

  • SAP experience required

  • Must be proficient in using PC applications (Microsoft Outlook, Excel)

  • Ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Well organized and detail oriented with the ability to multitask

  • Resourceful problem solver with proven ability to bring quick resolution to challenging situations in a calm and professional manner

  • Team player with ability to build productive business relationships with employees and management across all functional areas
